I am a Licensed Massage Therapist trained in Swedish, Deep Tissue, Prenatal, Reflexology and Orthopedic modalities by The Lauterstein-Conway Massage School. I have studied massage therapy and acupressure for the childbearing year, which includes pregnancy, labor, and postpartum. I mainly offer massage services to my established doula and birth photography clients.

Prenatal Massage

Prenatal Massage is a marvelous therapeutic tool that can (and should) be integrated into your holistic prenatal care regimen. It is a physical and emotional health supplement shown to improve pregnancy outcomes and maternal health. You can enjoy prenatal massage safely throughout your entire pregnancy (first, second, and third trimesters). I offer a traditional Swedish-inspired prenatal massage, an induction massage for encouraging labor late in your pregnancy, and luxurious “foot rituals” to target your tired, swollen feet.

Benefits of prenatal massage include:

  • Reduced anxiety

  • Decreased symptoms of depression

  • Relief of muscle aches and joint pains

  • Better labor outcomes and newborn health

  • Reduction of stress chemicals in nervous system (norepinephrine and cortisol)

  • Increased dopamine and serotonin levels (the chemicals in your nervous system that convey a sense of happiness and well-being)

  • Improved circulation

  • Better sleep, due to an increase in delta brain waves (the brain activity that accompanies deep sleep)

Postpartum Massage

The postpartum period can be a frazzled time. Many changes occur in your body within a short period. Postpartum massage is an effective, holistic way to support the body through the necessary adjustments it makes for motherhood.

Benefits of postpartum massage include:

  • Relief of tension from birthing process

  • Emotional support; eases the postpartum “baby blues”

  • Releases shoulder, neck, and arm tension from breastfeeding

  • Encourages return of normal digestive functions

  • Helps restore muscle tone in abdomen and reposition the pelvis

  • Increases circulation and lymphatic drainage, which facilitates elimination of excess fluids/waste products and hastens healing, especially the shrinking of your uterus to it’s original size

  • Boosts energy levels; reduces fatigue

  • Improves postpartum hormone balance

  • Supports a healthy breastfeeding relationship by increasing prolactin levels, which increases milk production

Acupressure

Acupressure applies the same principles as acupuncture to promote wellness and relaxation. It is acupuncture without the needles! This ancient practice is rooted in the belief that by stimulating pressure points in your body, qi (“life energy”) is released, allowing it to flow freely through channels called “meridians.” Current research shows that acupuncture and acupressure work by stimulating a biochemical response in the body via the nervous system. I incorporate acupressure into my holistic doula care regimen because I have witnessed the positive effects it can have on your quality of life throughout pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.

Benefits of acupressure include:

  • Relief of morning sickness & nausea

  • Increased energy levels

  • Treatment of migraines

  • Reduction of aches & pains

  • Eases or diminishes symptoms of Depression & Anxiety

  • Encourages labor, augments labor naturally, and reduces length of labor

  • Improved sleep
